Superpit

The Superpit in Kalgoorlie is awe-inspiring – apparently it’s visible from space. It’s also an unusual tourist attraction (in my view) but locals take visitors there, so I took Brad there (I’m semi-local because of my work). The tiny vehicles working at the bottom of the pit, drive up the road that repeatedly rings the pit, gradually getting bigger and bigger, and they emerge from the fenced region as massive supersize vehicles. Their tyres are taller than adult males. The scale of operations is immense. But mostly, I admired the colours in the rocks and the bokeh created by the setting sun on broken rock. Brad and I drove to Kalgoorlie to participate in the Winter Sleepout in Centennial Park to raise awareness and funds for programs run by Bega Garnbirringu Health Service that provide supplies for rough sleepers in Kalgoorlie.
