Located on the Helena River, 39 kilometres north east of Perth, Mundaring Weir provides water to Merredin, Coolgardie, and other towns along the 530 kilometre pipeline to Kalgoorlie. The weir and pipeline were designed as part of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, by CY O’Connor, who unfortunately died by suicide after being ridiculed and accused of corruption. He did not see the scheme completed.
